Facebook looking to take on youtube


In an effort to compete with youtube and encourage internet users to stay on the platform even longer, facebook has introduced a new video search feature.

Previously, videos could only be viewed if they appeared on your newsfeed or if internet users visited the individual page.
Now, any Live video that is trending will appear in the general search results if it is relevant to what you are searching for. It is also possible to search for video content using keywords. Searches will pull from both pre-recorded video content and facebook live videos.

No big threat to yotube, for the moment…

In order to optimise results, announcers should hence ensure that video content is tagged. Most videos aren’t tagged extensively for the moment and as Facebook doesn’t appear to offer any search filters, don’t expect it to fully take on YouTube just yet. Watch this space …
